Self-styled godman Paramahamsa Nithyananda indulged in sexual acts with children besides his several disciples, the tainted spiritual leader’s former disciple Lenin Karuppan told a press conference amid dramatic scenes on Thursday.
Nithyananda’s downfall had begun after Lenin complained to the police against the godman in March this year. He had also submitted a compact disc containing visuals of a man, purportedly Nithyananda frolicking with a Tamil actress.
As many as 20 persons, who claimed to be the disciples of Nithyananda, arrived at the Bangalore Press Club where Lenin addressed the media for the first time after a private television channel had aired the lewd visuals on March 2. The police directed the disciples to leave the venue. They were later seen in front of the Press Club.
Lenin alleged that Nithyananda and his disciples were threatening him after he had filed the police complaint. He added that he had the support of several former devotees, who were not coming forward with complaints since they were scared of the godman.
“Nithyananda threatened me several times and it still continues. I have already informed the matter to the criminal investigation department (CID) officers. He (Nithyananda) had offered me Rs20 crore to not to reveal the video shot at his ashram,” Lenin said.
The former disciple had earlier claimed that he had clandestinely recorded Nithyananda’s lewd acts. Lenin told the media that he had more evidence against his former spiritual leader.
“I have all the documents to prove that he was involved in sex with women, men and children as well. He also visited striptease clubs and consumed alcohol during his US tour. He does all these acts in private,” alleged Lenin. He added that he was acting against Nithyananda because the latter has been claiming that he is God. “He teaches people and being in such a sacred position as a Hindu saint, he should not indulge in sex with his devotees,” Lenin said.
The police registered a case against the godman’s disciples, who barged into the press conference.
