Rape Case: What happens when godman Nithyananda undergoes potency test

Bangalore, Sept 8: All eyes are on Swami Nithyananda today. The self-styled godman has been brought to Bangalore on Monday, Sept 8 as he has been scheduled to undergo a test to check his potency level. Nithyananda has already been taken to Victoria Hospital in the tech city in Karnataka. A panel of four doctors examined the self-proclaimed godman who has been accused of rape. Earlier the the Supreme Court had overruled his plea and asked Nithyananda to go for the potency test. The accused had challenged Karnataka High Court's order which had asked him to appear at Victoria Hospital on Aug 6 for the test. One of his former disciples had accused Nithyananda of raping her. The complainer, an NRI, had hurled such serious allegations against him in 2012. Nithyananda has already been taken to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore According to the complainer, Nithyananda repeatedly raped her during her five-year stay at the godman's ashram. It was also claimed that Nithyananda allegedly had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incidents to anyone. A non-bailable arrest warrant was against him as he refused to appear before court for two consecutive times. Karnataka High Court also directed the investigative agency -- CID to take him into custody in case he failed to co-operate. Controversy first started haunting Nithyananda when a video was surfaced in 2008. Nithyananda and a South Indian actress were seen in compromising position in the video. Later he was arrested from Himachal Pradesh. Later several other cases were filed against him. According to sources, Nithyananda has been facing charges of rape, cheating, unnatural offences and criminal intimidation by some of his former devotees. What is potency test? Nithyananda was subjected to the potency test at the Institute of Nephro-Urology located in the campus of the government-run Victoria Hospital.

Refusing to give any relief, an apex court, bench headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, had on September 3 dismissed Nithyananda's plea challenging the High Court's order directing him to take the medical test and rapped him and the state police for the "atrocious delay" in the case related to a sexual abuse complaint against him by an NRI woman.
She had alleged she was repeatedly raped during her five-year stay at his ashram in Bidadi, near here.
In its July 16 order, the High Court had upheld the 2012 order of the CJM who had allowed the plea of the Criminal Investigation Department to subject Nithyananda to medical test to find out whether or not he was capable of having sexual intercourse and to collect his blood and voice samples.
