Devotees incited to file false cases against informer

The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has claimed before a Ramanagara court that Nithyananda was instigating people to file false complaints against Lenin Karuppan, the man who blew the lid off the godman’s alleged sexcapades in his Bidadi ashram.

In a September 4 application before the judicial magistrate’s court in Ramanagara, the CID has claimed that Nithyananda, who was released on conditional bail on June 11, incited a US-based devotee Anjula Jackson, wife of Hari Jackson of St Petersburg in Florida, to file a complaint against Karuppan in the same court on August 28.

In response to Jackson’s complaint, which the CID has described as baseless, frivolous and motivated, the agency defended Karuppan, claiming that he had not committed any offence as made out by the US-based person’s allegations.

In her complaint, Jackson said that Karuppan had violated Nithyananda’s privacy, trespassed the self-styled godman’s living quarters and defamed him.

After the CID moved the Ramanagara court, Nithyananda’s advocate moved a contempt petition against the investigating agency in the Karnataka High Court on September 14.

Sept. 15: In what appears to be an attempt to sabotage the case against her spiritual mentor, a devotee of Swamy Nithyananda has filed a contempt case against the investigating officer — Superintendent of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, K.N. Yogappa in a Ramanagaram court.

The devotee — an American citizen currently residing in the Bidadi ashram of Nithyananda has sought permission from the Advocate General of Karnataka to prosecute Yogappa in a contempt case for trying to influence the court in prosecuting Lenin — Nithyananda's former driver and complainant in the case against the godman.

Soon after Nithyananda, arrested on various charges including rape and cheating, was released on bail in June, some of his devotees filed a criminal case of trespass, cheating and forgery against Lenin, on whose complaint the Bidadi police had registered a case against Nithyananada, which was subsequently handed over to the CID. Mr. Yogappa filed a rejoinder in the case stating that Lenin is the complainant and innocent following which, Nithyananda's disciples filed a contempt case against Yogappa for influencing the court.

Highly placed sources in the CID charged Nithyananda's disciples for making sustained efforts to win over the three key witnesses in the case against the controversial godman. “We had examined Tamil actress Ranjitha, who was reportedly in the controversial videotape with Nithyananda.

She denied she was in the video and said the tape was fabricated. But the forensic report confirmed that the tape was genuine, unedited and the two people shot in it were Nithyananda and Ranjitha. The second witness had agreed to testify against the godman before the CID but now even he has backed out for obvious reasons”, an officer said.
