CID gets SC order on Nithyananda

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday received a copy of the Supreme Court order that calls for self-styled godman Nithyananda to undergo a potency test.
The Ramanagaram court had ordered that the godman, accused of rape, undergo a potency test. Nityananda had challenged the order in the High Court.
When the High Court quashed his plea, he had approached the Supreme Court.
A CID officer confirmed receipt of the Supreme Court order.

Nithyananda ashram under scanner for child rights violation

Bangalore, Nov 5, 2013, DHNS:
Action against controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda for alleged child rights’ violation may be initiated after November 7, after a complete inquiry in the matter has been carried out.
“We have planned a course of action in association with the police to rescue the children at the ashram. This will be done after we obtain permission from the head office which will most probably be after November 7,” said an official at the district child protection unit, Ramanagara.

A study to find the origin of 89 children at the ashram is being conducted by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Following a notice issued by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, the Deputy Commissioner’s office and District Child Welfare Committee in October, children from the ashram had attended a counselling session by CWC with their parents.

“We doubt if those who attended the counselling session were actually the parents of the children. In addition to this, we need to verify the authenticity of various information, including their places of residences. We have asked the district child protection units (DCPU) from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh to help us out,” said another official from the DCPU, Ramanagara.

The ashram came under the scanner when a team from the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) and Department of Women and Child (DWCD) were refused entry. It was later discovered that as many as 109 children from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and foreign countries like Singapore, Malaysia and USA were studying in the ashram, despite the ashram not being recognised by the Education department or the DWCD.

Notice served on Nithyananda gurukul

The office of Deputy Commissioner, Ramanagaram district, was buzzing with activity on Tuesday. As many as 89 students of the gurukul in Nithyananda ashram, accompanied by their parents, attended counselling at the office.
The counselling was held after the DC’s office, Child Protection Cell, District Child Welfare Committee and Department of Women and Child Welfare, Ramanagaram district, issued a notice to the gurukul. It is said that the gurukul, a residential school, does not have the requisite permission from either the Education or Women and Child Welfare departments. The school is also not affiliated to any board, either State or central. It has also been said that the school was violating all norms and had failed to apply for registration. Kannada was not being taught there.
After issuing the notice, the DC’s office had directed the school authorities to ensure that all students and their parents attend the counselling. During counselling, it emerged that of the 108 students, 19 had been transferred to other schools in the neighbouring States. Of the 89 remaining students, 88 and their parents attended. A report of the counselling will be sent to the head office in Bangalore.
During the counselling session, there was an altercation between Nithyananda supporters and the media personnel.

Nithyananda hiding in his ashram, claim Kannada activists

The Ramanagaram district police on Wednesday arrested 20 members of the Karnataka Nava Nirmana Sene, who were staging a protest near the Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam in Bidadi demanding that the self-styled godman be sent out of the State.
Tension prevailed for a while as the protesters tried to force their way into the ashram.
They claimed Nithyananda, who was accused in a sex scandal, returned to the ashram from Madurai and was staying “secretly” at the ashram.
He is facing criminal charges, including rape, and is out on bail. The State government, instead of initiating action against him, is providing security to the ashram, the protesters claimed.
Held
The police arrested sene leader Bhima Shankar Patil and 19 others and released them later.
