Chennai:
Ayyappan R., a former Sun Pictures associate and film distributor, on Monday filed a police petition against Kalanithi Maran, promoter of Sun TV Network Ltd, alleging that he hadn’t been paid dues of Rs.35 crore. The petition was filed with the Chennai police commissioner.

“I had given Rs.400
crore cash for 19 movies to Maran,”Ayyappan said in an interview.
Ayyappan distributed Sun Pictures movies in Chennai city, Madurai, South
Arcot and North Arcot, and also helped the company rope in other
distributors.
“The 2% commission and the 10 movies that failed out of
all the movies which I had bought from Sun Pictures need to be
compensated by Maran,” he said.
Ayyappan was accompanied by Hansraj Saxena, former chief operating officer of Sun Pictures, when he filed the petition.
Saxena was arrested on 4 July 2011 on cheating and
intimidation charges following a case filed by a Salem-based film
distributor. Two more cases were filed against him by Tamil film
producers for alleged intimidation after that. Saxena was then relieved
of his position in the company.
“I went to prison and am not responsible for all what
happened at Sun Pictures,” Saxena said. “Let the truth come out as to
what happened to Rs.400 crore.”
Maran could not be reached for comment. Calls and emails sent to his office and personal phones didn’t elicit a response.
Saxena currently produces and distributes Tamil movies through his new company, Sax Pictures.
Sun TV Network closed at Rs.407.80, up 0.83%. The benchmark Sensex dropped 0.38% to 19,244.42 pointshttp://www.livemint.com/Companies/BXuJN28WJGArBvcnJHcUlM/Former-Sun-Pictures-associate-files-petition-against-Maran.html
