July 18: Mr Lenin Karuppan, the former associate of controversial godman Swami Nithyananda, has alleged that Nithyananda and the other accused in the sex scandal case were lodging false cases against key witnesses of the case to force them to withdraw from the trial. Addressing reporters, Mr Lenin said that of the 12 key witnesses named by the CID, 11 were facing cases against Nithyananda and his associates.
He added that two witnesses in the US were facing false lawsuits lodged by the Life Bliss Foundation owned by Swami Nithyananda which included a Rs 100-crore lawsuit against an woman ex-devotee of Nithyananda who had undergone all types of exploitation at the Bidadi ashram. "A victim named in the CID chargesheet was arrested in the US following a false complaint by a devotee of Nithyananda. The same tactic has been adopted by his other devotees in various countries," he said, adding, "A total of 10 cases are filed against me. In four of these cases, the CID has filed a B report. Nithyananda's devotee and actress Ranjitha and Ms Pushpa's complaints that I had tried to rape them also proved false. But Nithyananda has continued his blackmailing tactics of lodging false cases to force witnesses to withdraw and create fear among prospective witnesses who may turn up before the court and depose against him," he alleged.
Mr Lenin also said that Nithyananda was creating roadblocks for the investigation by furnishing false health certificates and other documents. "Many accused in the sex scandal are absconding after getting bail," he charged, denying media reports that the present Tamil Nadu government headed by Ms Jayalalithaa was trying to rescue Nithyananda. "Nithyananda had offered me Rs 20 crore when he came to know that I had the video footage of his sex scandal. But I did not want money. Now since he is creating lots of problems for me, I request social organisations and advocates to come forward and help me fight the case," he said.
