Truth has seen the beginnings of victory today as Nithyananda announced his resignation from Dhyanapeetam and all its trusts! Hooray!!! 3 cheers to the triumph of truth! 

Those who are a little intelligent will see clearly that Nithyananda is NOT doing this for any magnanimous reasons like saving Hindu Dharma, as he claims in his video statement. This is quite obviously a step taken to save himself and his assets legally from being taken away on this issue of the sex scandal and slew of criminal charges against him.

Nevertheless, it is still a triumph for truth!! SATYAMEVA JAYATE

In view of the developments in the last three weeks following the media reports on me as the head of Dhyanapeetam, I had met some of the leading Acharyas of Hindu Dharma at Hardwar.

Briefing them about what is fact and what is fiction and candidly disclosing what had happened, I had sought their spiritual and moral guidance for me, and their views on the future course of Dhyanapeetam. I had also undertaken that I would act entirely in accordance with their counsel.

I have decided to live a life of Spiritual seclusion, for some indefinite time, to which the acharyas have agreed in principle.

In view of this, and to enable Dhyanapeetam to function with such amended agenda as may be necessary, I am resigning as the head of Dhyanapeetam and from all the trusts associated with it. A board of trustees consisting from sadhakas of Dhyanapeetam who are non-controversial, will henceforth manage Dhyanapeetam. I have also requested the Acharyas to help the newly constituted trust reorient the activities of Dhyanapeetam increasingly to undertake spiritually oriented service activities and to guide the trustees. I have also directed the new trustees of Dhyanapeetam to seek the counsel and go by the advice of the Acharyas.

I sincerely thank all those who I had the good fortune of being associated with and guiding in the last decade and more. I request them to pursue the Sadhana they had been initiated into, for, the Sadhana is more important than the Initiator. The recent media reports do not in any way affect the validity or the success of one’s Sadhana. If required I will return and talk about all that had happened as an independent witness to my conduct with a clean heart and pure soul and also in a less prejudiced atmosphere.

Trouble for ‘godman’ in the US

Almost a month after a former Nithyananda disciple in Tamil Nadu blew the whistle on him, a former American devotee has now filed criminal complaints in the US state of California against the self-styled godman.

The complainant, who has identified himself as Douglas McKellor, formerly known as Swami Nithya Praba, is a resident of San Jose, California. In his complaint to California state Attorney General Jerry Brown on March 25, McKellor has brought serious charges of sex, fraud, financial irregularities and physical abuse of devotees in the US against Nithyananda. Copies of the complaints are in the possession of Deccan Herald. Like Lenin Karuppan, who exposed the sex videos featuring Nithyananda and a Tamil actress and also accused him of "raping" or having sex with other women in his Bidadi ashram, McKellor has claimed that at least on one occasion he "was placed as a guard in front of the door to make sure that no one, repeat no one, disturbed him and his lady guest". While McKellor has not disclosed the date when he was asked to guard Nithyananda's room, he does mention that it took place when the godman headed a two-day workshop in a Sanatan Dharma temple in Norwalk, California. McKellor, who is a Hindu, alleges that Nithyananda "ate his meals or rested alone with young attractive (women) followers" in his private quarters at the cult organisation's Norwalk and Montclair ashrams. On the lines of Karuppan's allegations, the American national, who claims to have begun exposing Nithyananda's "organised fraud" in his blogsite http://nithyananda-cult.blogspot.com/, alleges in his complaint to the California attorney general that the godman "abused" Hindu religious tenets, by which he would issue "fake enlightenment certificates", took away people's life savings, including $400,000 of his bank deposit and physically abused ashramites. Describing how he was "enlightened", McKellor says: "While living in the Los Angeles ashram in June 2007, I was one in the first batch of Nithyananda's instant enlightenment. During the week-long program, I felt unnaturally dizzy and light. It was as if some strange drug was causing me to lose my senses." He goes on to say that during the workshop Nithyananda performed fire rituals in which all initiates "had to cut off a strand of our own hair and this hair was added to the fire." Besides, he claims, "Nithyananda also added something that looked like marijuana seeds into the fire."

Nithyananda may have forged birth documents

There is now emerging evidence suggesting that self-styled godman Nithyananda may have forged his birth documents. He has certainly misrepresented his date of birth.

There are already question marks over the mechanical engineering diploma that he had supposedly earned from a Vellore polytechnic college.

A copy of the US visa issued to him from the US Consulate in Chennai in 2003 shows his date of birth to be March 13, 1977. This means that at the time of applying for the US visa, he had provided the Consulate authorities with document(s) that showed his date of birth as reflected in the travel paper stamped on his passport (No E2122927).

But in two other documents –– petitions filed along with sworn affidavits –– in the Karnataka High Court last week he has stated that his date of birth is January 1, 1978. In the petitions, praying for “quashing the entire proceedings including the investigation” pending against him at Bidadi police station near here, Nithyananda’s lawyer claims: “The petitioner was born on January 1, 1978, in Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu.”

There is more about his age in a Nithyananda biography, relevant sections of which are available with Deccan Herald. The author writes: “Nithyananda was born on January 1, 1978, at 32 minutes past midnight in the holy town of Tiruvannamalai in South India.” The same author writes that Nithyananda was born in the Tamil month of “Margazhi” (December-January) and likens his birth to that of Krishna.

A city-based advocate Siji Malayil said furnishing two different dates of birth for official purposes could invite criminal action for cheating and forgery. Malayil added that in the case of Nithyananda, the Indian Penal Code’s Section 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purposes of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) could be evoked.

In view of suspected forgery of birth documents and misrepresentation of his date of birth, the American authorities are believed to have begun to look into the manner in which Nithyananda obtained US visa. This enquiry could form the basis of a wider probe into the activities of his cult organisations that operate out of several American cities.

Incidentally, the US visa (B1/B2 type) Nithyananda obtained in 2003 was “cancelled pursuant to with prejudice” by American border officials on February 4, 2007, while he was trying to cross over from Canada to the US.

The brief introduction of the petitioner becomes relevant and necessary herein, as follows: The petitioner was born on 1st January 1978 in Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, India and named A Rajasekaran. He is the second son of his parents (late) Sri Arunachalam and Smt Lokanayaki.

New twist to Nityananda sex scandal

In yet another twist to the sex scam involving Swami Nithyananda and Tamil film actress Ranjitha, godman’s former aide Dharmananda alias Lenin claims to have taped his voice telephonically when the former sought to buy peace with him.

Fresh trouble: Former disciple Lenin has claimed that he taped his conversation with the godman. Refusing to be coaxed by the Swamiji’s alleged bid to convince him not to take his police complaint to its logical conclusion, Lenin reportedly told a Tamil bi-weekly “Nakkeeran” that he was “determined” to continue the exposes about the Swamiji.

The magazine in its latest edition has put out what it claims to be the purported latest audio-recorded conversation between Swami Nithyananda and his former disciple Lenin, after the godman’s recent revelations in a television interview that the sensational tapes were a “distortion and extrapolation” as part of a larger conspiracy to “frame him”.

Meanwhile, the police here maintained that they have no knowledge where Lenin was staying in the city, though the latter is believed to be staying with a friend.

Lenin apparently is in touch with only one correspondent of the Tamil magazine, which is now virtually running a Swami Nithyananda “serial”, publishing more photographs from the alleged CD.

Even on Wednesday, when an anticipatory bail plea of one Dr Chandran, a homeopathic doctor of Namakkal and a disciple of Swami Nithyananda, had come up in the Madras High Court, the police, through the state’s counsel, took the view that the cases against the Swamiji had been transferred to Karnataka, implying apprehensions of arrest by Dr Chandran was uncalled for. Hence the anticipatory bail plea was dismissed.

The All India Akhara Parishad, an apex body of saints and sadhus that represents India’s all-important 13 Akharas, has decided to launch a campaign to “identify” and “throw out religious gurus” who “cheat and dupe people” in the garb of spirituality.

Parishad president Mahant Gyan Das told Deccan Herald that saints and sadhus at the ongoing Mahakumbh were concerned at the recent exposure of some “fake godmen” and “fake religious gurus” as their deeds have “tarnished the image of the age-old Sanatana Dharma”.

The Mela administration’s decision to cancel Nithyananda’s application stems from a raging deliberation among Hindu saints who, Dhanik said, “are furious” with the Bidadi godman for his alleged sexual activities with a woman.

“The saints told the Mela administration in no uncertain terms to reject and cancel his application,” Dhanik said. The saints, according to Mela administration officials, have also taken the position that Nithyananda’s entry to future Kumbh congregations be barred.
The officials said “the sentiments expressed by the saints indicated Nithyananda has been ex-communicated by them”.

Guruprasad (Kannada film director) condemns Swami Nithyananda
Mata fame director Guruprasad has condemned Paramahamasa Nithyananda Swamiji by saying that despite having alleged affair with Tamil actress Ranjitha, he continues to deny the fact. He said if he thought he was pure, then he should hand over all his alleged property to the government and re-establish his personality as a samyasi by sacrificing all worldly things.

Three years ago, the director had predicted this kind of alleged act in his blockbuster movie Mata, which featured comedy king Jaggesh in lead. The movie deals with the purity of crimson cloth (Khavi dress). It depicts the illegal activities that happen in today's Ashrams.

In an interview to Kannada news channel TV9 on Wednesday evening, Guruprasad said, “Although whole world has seen Swamiji's video footage, he denies it by saying it has been morphed. If he is clear and he has not allegedly made any property. Then he should give up all his belongings to government. He should give up his worldly desires and reestablish himself as a real Swamiji."

Guruprasad also slammed at the devotee of Nithyananda by calling them 'foolish'. He said, “Despite seeing him involving in sexual act with actress Ranjitha at his Bidadi Ashram, they still believe him as their Guru. They don't think that he is a great actor. They still support him, adore him as a godman."

The director said that there are hundreds of Swamijis like Shivakuamrji those who are serving the society. The people like Nithyananda are creating bad impression about them. He further said, "Finally, I would like to suggest his devotees they should wake and stop supporting him. For Swamiji, I would suggest his drama is enough and he should shed his mask and come out with clean hands.”

This is a great opportunity for all to unite against the common enemy in all religions - those who exploit others in the name of religion - especially women and children. Nithyananda has tantric powers and those close to him have seen them first hand. His spiritual teachings are rock solid. On one hand, he is a powerful entity, on another hand, his only mission is to cheat others of their hard earned money and amass as much power, fame and wealth as he can“ a very dangerous combination. I have also seen the abuses, mistreatments and pure evil he is capable of. All he cares about is 1 thing -HIMSELF. I am sure the "Master Liar and Manipulator" Nithyananda will escape the clutches of law and be extremely dangerous to humanity in general and impossible to trap again. If he is not brought to justice now along with his "MAHA LIARS and THUGS" ACHARAYAS (at least some of them) and they made to pay a price for their misdeeds, we will invent the most dangerous and violent cult in existence. Nithyananda is a danger to his own spiritual progress. In my opinion, he should be kept in confinement and be asked to provide all the spiritual knowledge and service to humanity FOR FREE for the rest of his days. For the lay, Nithyananda’s transcendental lies

It took A Rajasekharan, alias Paramahamsa Nithyananda, the man masquerading as a spiritual leader and healer of mental and physical afflictions, nearly two weeks to come out and claim that he was in a ‘trance’ when he was filmed having sex with a Tamil actress. Obviously, Nithyananda, who claims to have experienced ‘truth’ and ‘enlightenment’, is not anywhere near speaking the truth.

The ‘paramahamsa’ does not even have the courage to own up to the fact that he gave in to a moment of human weakness (it is another matter that it was not simply a momentary lapse of ascetic strength; that was his wont and the sine qua non of his so-called spiritual movement). How do we describe such a man? A fraud? A confidence trickster? A villainous manipulator? A sociopath on the loose?

The common dictionary definition of trance is “a half-conscious state, seemingly between sleeping and waking, in which ability to function voluntarily may be suspended”. If Nithyananda is trying to tell the world at large, and especially his disciples, that he was in fact violated by Ranjitha, the Tamil actress he is shown to have sex with, he is lying. For, nobody who has seen the video clips would be fooled about his claim. It is pretty much obvious that Nithyananda was not in a state of trance, or as he put it, ‘in deep samadhi’. He was, to use his own cultic language, in a state of extreme ecstatic bliss.

What Nithyananda has attempted to do through his statements aired via his own website or a couple of television news channels is to sway the flagging support among his youthful followers. The efforts to clear himself by replying to inspired questions put by a researcher of little academic recognition, the use of spurious cultic language (‘deep silent meditation’) and other forms of half-baked comments exposed an essentially flawed and devious mind incapable of taking on the truth. But these, according to sociological studies of the 1950s, also indicated that as a cult leader Nithyananda tried to change his devotees’ and television viewers’ belief systems via ‘sensory overload’ and subverting their ability to reason.

Even if it is assumed that some of the studies used over-generalised stereotypes of deception on the part of cult leaders, there is no denying the fact that Nithyananda is now employing a stratagem to trick people into believing that he committed no wrong. He has persuasion techniques, but part-admitting to have been ‘served’ by Ranjitha and lying on his state of consciousness will not go a long way to establish his credibility among the people at large. In many ways, Nithyananda has been found out. The videos ensured that first and then his statements left no doubt in the minds of the people that the man they watched on the television screen was an inveterate liar.

Credibility

Duping people by half-baked tantric concepts like being in a state of trance will only alienate his cultic order from those who are more rational in judging and concluding the moral worth of a man who claims to be, and is projected by some of his associates, as an ‘enlightened Master’.

Nithyananda was mistaken to be a charismatic leader by members of his cult. A deviant and perverse impersonation of malignity, Nithyananda tried to use the sublime ideals of Hinduism and Brahminism to achieve a rather base objective — wealth accumulation the easy way.

There is a large and established body of scholarly literature, far more credible and grounded in rationality than the mish-mash of Brahmanical and occult practices that Nithyananda bandied about through his teachings and sermons, but which are, to say the least, a perverse attack on the ideals of Brahmanism, Sanatana Dharma and Vedanta philosophy. He tried to hijack all of these in one go without even adequately comprehending them in their fullest depth. He tried to sell them expensive, the cost of which he is now paying by way of social revile.

It is best left to scholars of theology, religion and cults to ascertain what Nithyananda’s organisation, which sociologists would agree was formed to satisfy the personal interests of its leader and a few others, attempted to propagate was impairing and destructive. Nithyananda is no Moses trying to deliver his fringe flock to freedom. His seven-year movement, if it can be described as one at all, is an experiment with a self-deceiving, illusory conception of an alternative way of life that was not altruistic in the sense that it was not directed at ameliorating the lot of the poor, the marginalised, the disempowered and the wretched of society.

Nithyananda tried to engineer the beliefs of many young people that the freedom to lead wholly self-indulgent lives could provide them with the sense of purpose and direction in life they so ardently sought. Having taken the pendulum of freedom to its outermost limits, after throwing hundreds of young minds back into a regressive mode by inculcating in them the idea that he was their Master, the arbiter of their souls, and by telling them that their salvation lay at his ‘lotus feet’, Nithyananda has now found a barren vista.

Sincere monk goes astray

Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda had inspired him to become a monk when Rajasekharan was a poor youth in Tamil Nadu’s holy town of Tiruvannamalai years ago.

But apparently “unable to withstand the rigours” of advanced spiritual training at the Ramakrishna Mutt and Mission, Rajasekharan who later turned as the self-styled Godman, Swami Paramahans Nithyananda, “left the monastic order on his own”. Swami Abhiramananda, Manager of the Ramakrishna Mutt in Chennai, in an exclusive conversation with ‘Deccan Herald’ on Thursday, said Rajasekharan had joined the monastic order in 1995.
After nearly four years of training here that included courses in Hindu scriptures, Sanskrit, meditation and ‘yoga’, he was sent for the advanced course at their Headquarters, Belur Mutt, near Kolkata. But he left the Mutt in 2000, said Swami Abiramananda.

All aspiring monks will have to go through the Mutt’s spiritual rigour for ten years before they are each given a ‘Sanyasa name’. Rajasekharan obviously did not qualify for it, but “he was a keen student, sincere and intelligent,” to the extent Abiramananda knew him. Rajasekharan did have “some power in him”, the monk observed.


Mystery over Swamy's age

Authorities at the supposed alma mater of self-styled godman Paramahamsa Nithyananda, in the midst of a murky sex scandal involving a Tamil actress and other female disciples, on Monday said the institution's management will likely to inquire into the circumstances under which an under-age boy was given admission.


Nithyananda's educational attainment has come under a cloud after it was found that he was given admission to a three-year mechanical engineering diploma course at Rajagopal Polytechnic College in Gudiyattam in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district when he was 12 years old.

According to the college website, Nithyananda received his diploma in 1993 when he would have been only 15 years old. This is evident from the college website on which he has been eulogised as: "An alumni, Swamiji Nithyananda has donated magnanimously Rs 200,000 (Rs two lakh) for Noon Meal Scheme. Each year he used to donate huge sum whole-heartedly. We proudly register here that he is our old student, did his Mechanical Engineering (1990-1993)."

When contacted, college principal R J Kumar told Deccan Herald over phone that he was admitted to the mechanical engineering course in 1992 and studied in the institution till 1995 when he earned his diploma in "first class with distinction.”

Discrepancy

Kumar's version is also full of discrepancy since Nithyananda, who claims to have been born in 1978, would have been only 14 years old at that time. According to rules in vogue in Tamil Nadu a diploma course could be pursued if the candidate seeking admission to any specific programme has passed Class X at age of 16. At that time, Nithyananda was known by the name A Rajasekaran.

Kumar, who said he had checked the records, said he would request the college management to undertake an inquiry into the matter.

He also said he would instruct the college technical staff to "correct" the entry from the website.

The questionable part of Nithyananda's supposed education at Rajagopal Polytechnic was the age factor. He claims in his autobiography that he was born in 1978. That makes him 12 years of age in 1990, the year he supposedly was enrolled in the college. On the other hand, if Kumar's claim that Rajasekaran was enrolled in 1992 is correct, then the boy was only 14 years at that time.

Inquiry to be ordered

When contacted, mechanical engineering head of the department P Pannerselvam said he would order an inquiry into the circumstances under which an under-age boy was admitted to the diploma course.

"I am on medical leave, but once I rejoin work I will ask the college authorities to go into the matter. After all, the reputation of the college is at stake," Pannerselvam told Deccan Herald over phone.

Clearly concerned over the prima facie bending of rules to award a diploma to an under-age boy, Pannerselvam said, "it might be that he got admission under the management quota," adding: "He might have produced false certificates."

While a thorough check will shed light on Nithyananda's educational qualifications and whether he had earned the diploma fairly, there are some college staff, including civil engineering department head R Amutha, who claimed she taught her subject to Nithyananda "in 1992-93."

When contacted, Amutha, who claims to have a 31-year teaching career, did not dispute the fact that she is a devotee of Nithyananda whom she met in 2001 “when he lived in Erode.”

Amutha, who admitted to paying money to have Nithyananda's darshan and partake of his teachings, claimed that “most of the staff in the college are his devotees.”
